(After) Roy Lichtenstein (1923 – 1997, American), “Nude with Red Shirt” is a limited-edition silkscreen reproduction on Arches paper, hand-numbered 126/199 with Signature Imprimee. The sheet measures 76 x 51 cm (30 x 22.5 inches) and the image dimensions are 22 x 17 inches. Nearing the end of his career, Lichtenstein produced a series of nine screenprints on the subject of the nude in 1994. “Nude with Red Shirt” is one of the nine nudes printed at Tyler Graphics in New York and recorded in the second volume of the catalogue raisonné of the artist’s prints (Corlett and Fine 2002). Lichtenstein recalled the images of female figures from the comic books he had created in the 1960s, removed their clothes in his mind and re-created them as intentionally provocative nudes.
In 1995, Lichtenstein also created an oil and magna painting on canvas of “Nude with Red Shirt” that measured 77 x 65 inches and sold for $28 million dollars at Christie’s in New York in November 2012. Another image in the form of a signed collage was also created in 1995 and sold for 2.8 million GBP in 2010 (over $4 million USD at that time.)
